What is Ayurveda?
Originating over 5000 years ago and still a widely practiced medicine in India today, at its essence, Ayurveda harnesses the inherent relationship between people and nature; the key to ultimate health and wellness found in the delicate balance between a nourished body, a still mind and a peaceful spirit.
Aligned with the Ayurvedic philosophy, Ayurvedic beauty is a practice, rather than a static state; a way of addressing outward concerns which involves the whole body and the mind. On our Ayurvedic beauty journey, what we strive for is an inner glow that shines through on the outside: {rasahayanaa}.
The Ingredients
The original Ayurvedic skin treatments were recorded by Ayurvedic doctors or {vidyas} over 1500 years ago. Healing plants, herbs and essential oils were categorised according to their holistic properties, and blended into medicinal oils to remedy both the skin and the mind.
Those very oil recipes, named Kumkumadi, Urjasara, Amarrupa and Bringadi, are kept alive in our signature face and hair care ranges. Honouring the origins of these remedies, we caringly harvest the prized botanicals within them according to nature’s cycles, using the traditional methods that always gave them such purity and potency.
- The Doshas
Balance. A word that appears often the world of Ayurveda, the concept of balanced energies is, in fact, the core of the Ayurvedic philosophy. To visualise the energy centres within our bodies, we look to the Ayurvedic doshas.
Picture the three doshas: Vata, the energy of wind, Pitta, the energy of fire, and Kapha, the energy of water and earth. There is a predominant one in each of us, its power fluctuating in tune with the seasons, our environment and our individual lifestyle factors. The skin’s condition is a reflection of our inner health and wellbeing, skin concerns indicating the doshas at play which, in turn, informs the treatment.
