Hydration: the essential step to your skincare routine

Skincare experts often extol the virtues of a hydrated face, not only because well-moisturised skin gives off a youthful, glowing appearance, but also, according to the principles of Ayurveda skin is amongst health barometers, giving a skin at the body and skin’s doshas (or energies) are balanced and healthy.

Not only can dehydrated skin feel tight and uncomfortable, but it can also be prone to dullness and irritation. From a surface point of view, fine lines and redness are more visible on dehydrated skin, so keeping the skin hydrated is the first step in improving its appearance.

How to diagnose your skin

The first step in working out how to properly hydrate your specific skin type is diagnosing what skin type you have. You can get yours in just 5 steps with Kama Ayurveda Skin Care Quiz:

In Ayurvedic skincare, skin falls into one of three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. You can complete previous results by discovering yours by taking Kama Ayurveda Dosha Quiz

Understanding which dosha your skin most resembles can help you work to naturally rebalance your complexion. Those with Vata skin tendencies often experience dry, rough skin that tends to wrinkle, and need to regularly moisturise their skin with deeply nourishing, natural ingredients. Skin with pitta tendencies, which is often sensitive, prone to inflammation and imperfections, needs to be calmed and soothed, while Kapha skin, which can be oily and prone to water retention and acne, can benefit from exfoliation, but it is important to still moisturise kapha skin with light moisture.

If you find yourself struggling with tightness and discomfort due to dehydration, it’s time to take your routine back to basics with some simple, yet highly nourishing Ayurvedic skincare products.

Hydrating oil

A crucial step in the skin’s maintenance of moisture is a healthy skin barrier – when compromised, the skin will lose moisture more easily, as well as leaving the skin vulnerable to irritation, inflammation, and even the effects of daily aggressors like pollution. The Urjasara Strengthening & Nourishing Face Oil is clinically proven to provide long-lasting hydration during 24h* but also helps to strengthen the skin’s natural skin barrier by +27% **.
